About the ISS Conflict Prevention Internship

The ISS Internship on Conflict Prevention in the Great Lakes Region provides aspiring professionals with a platform to develop essential skills in research, communication, and analysis. Interns will work alongside experienced researchers, gaining insights into conflict dynamics and governance in East Africa and the Great Lakes region.

Key Responsibilities

As an intern, you will be responsible for:

  • Monitoring Media: Tracking conflict dynamics and socio-political developments in East Africa and the Great Lakes region.
  • Conducting Research: Supporting primary and secondary research on conflict prevention.
  • Disseminating Research Findings: Assisting in sharing research results and policy recommendations through written products and events.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Identifying key stakeholders, peer groups, donors, and beneficiaries.
  • Monitoring and Evaluation: Assisting in assessing program impact.
  • Administrative Support: Providing logistical and administrative assistance to the team.

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for this internship, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Educational Background: A postgraduate degree in peace and security studies, political science, international relations, law, sociology, criminology, or a related field.
  • Language Proficiency: Excellent command of written and spoken English is required. Knowledge of French or Kiswahili is an added advantage.
  • Research Skills: Experience in conflict early warning systems is desirable.
  • Analytical Abilities: Strong research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Work Authorization: Open to Kenyan nationals, residents of Kenya, or individuals with a valid work permit for Kenya.
  • Availability: Ability to work independently, creatively, and proactively.

Internship Duration and Benefits

  • Contract Duration: 12 months.
  • Location: Nairobi, Kenya.
  • Stipend: A monthly stipend will be provided to support living expenses.
