Care Manager
Job Objective/Purpose
To Monitor ongoing quality, productivity, efficiency and cost effectiveness of services and liaison person with third party payers.
Key Responsibilities
- Conducts daily in patient rounds of the specific scheme beneficiaries admitted in the hospital. To ensure timely and appropriate admission, diagnosis, and treatment, care of patients and advise the hospital and the corporate accordingly.
- Ensure only authentic pre-authorizations are issued for clients seeking medical services in collaboration with the clinical medical team.
- Draw monthly reports for specific corporate clients inclusive of trends,analysis, market intelligence for improved business development
- Liaise daily with other concerned units especially credit control and clinical department to seek amicable solutions to problems related to our billing and invoicing system.
- Any other duty as assigned by the supervisor in line with the job description.
Personal Specifications
- A BScN in nursing and administrative training
- Kenya Registered Community Health Nurse or Kenya Registered
- Nurse / Midwife with 3 years’ experience and above or other relevant
- qualification
- Certificate in computer application skills from a recognized institution.
- Valid Kenyan nursing practice license.
- Updated BLS certificate
- 3 years proven experience as a care manager

Pharmacy Manager
Job Objective/Purpose
The Pharmacy Manager will be responsible for ensuring that high quality standards are maintained at all times in the provision of medication and medical consumables per Avenue Healthcare’s defined policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
The pharmacy manager will perform the following people management duties as guided by Avenue HR policies and in coordination with the HR Department.
- Efficient utilization of Pharmacy techs, pharmacy clerks and pharmacy assistants
- Liaise with the Medical Services Manager to ensure optimal staff levels as well as efficient use of overtimes and locums.
- Medication management, daily / random counts, variance and expiry monitoring to achieve optimal stock management and tidy shelves.
- Identify training gaps and liaise with HR and medical quality team to facilitate training
- Participate in the recruitment, interviewing and hiring pharmacy personnel
- Ensure all pharmacy staff undergo orientation, training and competence assessment checks
- Reward, Recognition and Discipline
- Ensure that deserving staff are recognized/rewarded
- Disciplinary action (with proper cause) is undertaken without undue delay and per defined policies
- Staff supervision: Responsible for supervising all pharmacy staff (Pharm techs,clerks and assistants) and evaluating performance.
- Manage and lead the Pharmacy Units (Outpatient, Special Clinics and Inpatient) in the provision of safe, timely, efficient, effective and patientcentered pharmacy services and operations
- Implement safe medication use processes in all the pharmacy units
- Develop and / or maintain operational and quality policies and procedures

- Stock Management:

- ·Perform accurate and timely stock variance reporting with justifiable reasons prior to approval and adjustments
- Target zero expiries and stock losses
- Prepare a monthly report for pharmacy based on KPIs
- Check margins monthly for items to ensure target margins are attained
- Develop plans and lead efforts to improve financial performance in assigned areas of responsibility
- Ensure highest quality of care and service in the Pharmacy units:
- Supervise the drug preparations for high alert medication and extemporaneous preparations & compounding e.g., dermatological preparations and syrups
- Ensure appropriate storage of pharmacy items with temperature & humidity monitoring and in compliance with other policies including Hazmat items handling
- Patient satisfaction and confidentiality:
- Ensure patient satisfaction through quality of care, communication, and collection of feedback from patients as determined in the KPI using the standardized patient satisfaction in the pharmacy units.

Personal Specifications
- Bachelors in Pharmacy (BPharm)
- A valid Kenya Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB) practice License
- Updated BLS certificate
- Leadership & Management certificate/degree
- Not less than 3 years’ experience in Pharmacy Management
- COHSASA or other Accreditation experience
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Resident Physician
Job Objective/Purpose
To provide overall clinical leadership and governance as well as clinical care in the department of clinical medicine.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct Physician outpatient clinics in line with the hospital schedules and attend to both walk-in and referred patients.
- Attend to all patients who require physician review within hospital standard operating procedures, national and internationally guidelines.
- Conducting timely ward rounds/patient reviews for all internal medicine patients in the hospital, in line with the hospital standard operating procedures, national, and international treatment guidelines.
- Accurate and clear documentation of patient history, physical examination, investigations, and management.
- Provide clarity of investigations to be carried out and interpretation of the results and ensure update to the patients and the next of kin.
- Facilitate patient admissions, necessary consents, and discharges.
- Counsel clients on treatment and compliance to treatment (patient and family) while ensuring their participation in decision making in their management.
- Carry out procedures and surgical interventions as per authorized/licensed privileges while ensuring high quality of care/services and safety of patients.
- Conduct family conferences in line with hospital standard operating procedures
- Participate in morbidity and mortality audits and meetings.
- Ensure patient satisfaction through quality of care, communication, feedback and escalation and demonstrate follow-up and improvement.
Personal Specifications
- Be a holder of a Bachelor’s degree in medicine and surgery
- Be a holder of Masters in internal Medicine
- Specialist recognition in internal medicine
- Fellowship in Cardiology/endocrinology/Nephrology
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant working experience.

Theatre Assistant
Job Objective/Purpose
To assist Theatre Technicians, Nurses, Surgeons and Anesthetists in recovery room, CSSD , Post Anesthesia Care Unit and Operating room.
Key Responsibilities
- Dealing with Patients
- Assist with the transfer of patients to theatre in time for operation
- Ensure patients safety in a clean and tidy environment
- Communicates courteously and professionally
- Maintain client and patient privacy and confidentiality at all times
- Infection Control & Theatre Cleanliness
- Ensure proper cleaning and disinfection of the theatres after every procedure
- Ensure proper waste segregation and disposal and waste management per the Infection Prevention Control (IPC) manual
- Sluice soiled linen and maintain a linen stock count register.
- General Theatre Assistance
- Acts as a runner and provides necessary support to the operating room team
- Autoclaving, sterilization and packing of instruments
- Scrubbing for cases
- Assisting in surgery
- Collaborate with the shift leader/nurse in-charge to ensure that the unit has the necessary equipment/resources and in good working condition.
- Record and report all sentinel incidents/events within 24 hours using the provided tools.
- Prevention of clinical errors by accurate recording of vital signs, correct patient identification, proper filling of patient charts and report abnormal findings to the nurse on duty
- Participate in emergency response
- Assist in restraining violent patients eg. ECT patients
- Participate in the ward handover exercise of patients in PACu.

Unit Manager – Medical Ward
Job Objective/Purpose
Planning, Organizing and coordinating all the activities in the unit, to ensure that quality standards of care is adhered to, by all medical staff in AHC facilities, in line with the hospital’s policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervising and ensuring delivery of a professional and high standard of nursing care within the section while leading a team of nurses and patient attendants in delivering individual and team targets.
- Review specific patients’ investigations, analyze, interpret, troubleshoot, and initiate immediate intervention.
- Ensure primary nurse engagement with doctors and other care providers regarding patients’ plan of care and care solutions with emphasis on a team-based problem-solving approach to provide unified approach to patient care.
- Review and ensure that nursing care plans are scientific,evidence based and address the priority needs of the patients.
- Any other duty as assigned by the supervisor in line with the job description.
