Who we are:
Busara is the leading behavioral science organization in the Global South, and we apply behavioral science to help alleviate poverty internationally. We do this through applied advisory work, and through our scientific and academic research work.
We’re based in Nairobi, Kenya, and have offices and projects across the Global South. We also run the largest behavioral science research lab in the world, and have mobile labs and partnerships with other labs in universities across the Global South.
Role Purpose Statement
The Research Compliance Intern will support research ethics and compliance processes across the organization, working in collaboration with Portfolio Teams and under the supervision of the Senior Project Operations Officer.
Key Accountabilities/Responsibilities

- Support compilation and review of Institutional Review Board (IRB) applications
- Coordinate printing and delivery of applications to relevant bodies as necessary
- Track IRB submissions and approvals by maintaining an up to date database and providing regular updates to the Sn Project Operations Officer
- Monitor IRB renewals and amendments and notify staff members when renewals are due
- Facilitate the collection of project documents and reports for the annual IRB renewals
- Monitor staff ethics certification and highlight gaps, in particular for projects requiring IRB approval
- Maintain a clean filing system for all ethics- and compliance-related documents
- Support the identification of new IRBs across different countries
- Support the Project Operations Team on any other tasks as requested.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

- Interest in research and project management
- Experience in project assistance or administration
- Excellent organizational skills
- Excellent verbal communication and writing skills in English
- Flexible, self-motivating, able to manage multiple tasks efficiently
- Experience working in a fast-paced environment
- Able to work effectively across multiple, diverse teams
