About the East Africa Youth Peace Network

Arising out of demand from delegates from countries emerging out of conflict who stressed that the summit would be more relevant to their context in peace and security were made part of the agenda, in 2020, the EAC and partners incorporated the Arusha Peace Forum into YouLead Summit 2020 for the first time.

A major recommendation of the Arusha Peace Forum 2020 was the need to form an East African Youth Peace Network to bring and keep together youth (young women and men) as actors in the peace and security agenda of the EAC and feed into the global peace and security agenda. Working with MS Training Centre for Development Cooperation, the Political Affairs Department of EAC, through the common youth engagement initiatives of the two institutions – EAC Youth Ambassadors and Youlead, follow-up consultations were conducted, leading to the formation of an EAC Youth Peace Network, the EAC Youth Peace Network is now set up, with one representative elected by members per EAC Partner State. The East African Youth Peace Network has set Peaceful Election Campaigns and Elections in Kenya to be a priority for 2022.
