Google.org Generative AI Accelerator Program 2025 for nonprofits and social enterprises ($30M in funding)

Applications are now open for the 2025 Google.org Generative AI Accelerator Program. This global initiative invites nonprofits, civic entities, academic institutions, and social enterprises to apply and participate in shaping impactful AI-driven solutions.



Eligibility Criteria

Before applying, ensure your project aligns with the following:


  1. Feasibility
    • Is the proposed generative AI solution grounded in research, data, or a proven track record?
    • Does the proposal present a clear, realistic execution plan, including access to data, models, and technical or domain expertise to responsibly apply generative AI?
    • Are adequate resources, including budget and partners, in place to implement the project effectively?
  2. Impactful Use of Generative AI
    • Is generative AI central to the project’s success?
    • Does the proposal use new or existing generative AI technology to address a critical issue innovatively and appropriately?
    • Does it outline significant, measurable positive outcomes for its beneficiaries?
  3. Scalability
    • Can the project scale to benefit the broader sector, crossing use cases and geographical boundaries?
    • Can the solution be open-sourced?
    • Is there existing demand and buy-in from the sector for this solution?
    • Does the proposal demonstrate potential for growth and sustainability beyond Google.org support?
  4. Accelerator Participation
    • Is there a commitment to fully engage in the 6-month Google.org Generative AI Accelerator program?
    • Does the proposal explain how the program’s resources will advance the project toward developing a technical prototype?

Focus Areas

The program seeks projects addressing:


  • Knowledge, Skills, & Learning: Creating pathways for individuals to acquire essential knowledge and skills.
  • Scientific Advancement: Driving breakthroughs and AI-enabled innovations for societal good, encouraging collaborations between research institutions and nonprofits to bridge theory and practical application.
  • Resilient Communities: Strengthening societal resilience, promoting internet safety, and enhancing crisis response capabilities.

Benefits

Selected organizations will receive:

  • A share of $30M in funding, ranging from $500,000 to $2M+ per project.
  • 6 months of structured support, including:
    • Pro bono assistance from Google employees.
    • Technical training and access to Google Cloud credits for building solutions with tools like Vertex AI and Gemini.

Expectations

Selected organizations must:

  • Dedicate ~4 hours per week from at least one Executive Director or Decision Maker and one Technical Project Lead to participate in the Accelerator.
  • Build a generative AI-powered social impact solution during the Accelerator and showcase their prototype at a Demo Day.
  • Use funding over 30 months for both prototype development during the program and product scaling afterward.
