How Royal Mabati is Shaping Careers: John Munesi’s Internship Journey.
Royal Mabati, a leading manufacturer of roofing materials in Kenya, is not only known for its quality products but also for its commitment to nurturing young talent. The company’s internship program offers students invaluable opportunities to gain practical experience, develop professional skills, and lay the foundation for successful careers.
Often, we tend to overlook the pivotal role that internships play in our pursuit of career paths. Many young people perceive internships as non-remunerative periods where they utilize their knowledge and youth to merely earn recognition from their lecturers or add a line to their resumes.

For most interns, these periods are stressful and demanding, causing many to abandon their career aspirations before securing permanent positions. However, the experience can be markedly different for some interns, notably those we encountered at the esteemed manufacturer Royal Mabati. John Munesi, a 24-year-old graduate of Highland College, shares his journey here.
Munesi, who secured his internship after applying, describes his experience at the company as enlightening. As a building and construction graduate, he initially worked at the company’s plant, assisting in organizing, sorting, and bundling iron sheets for delivery—an opportunity he credits with significantly enhancing his understanding of after-sales processes.
Despite being new to the firm, Munesi notes that the company’s approach to incorporating graduates is more of a learning journey, offering not only practical knowledge of working within the firm but also valuable skills relevant to building, particularly in roofing and constructing perforated houses.
His time at the Athi River-based company mirrors that of many apprentices, interns, and trainees who have walked through the doors of this prestigious establishment founded in 2005.
Royal Mabati is renowned for its commitment to absorbing young talent and providing them with a vital training ground, fostering the development of essential skills not only in the construction industry but also in agriculture, particularly through their work in greenhouse construction.
The company remains steadfast in its dedication to imparting knowledge to interns and construction enthusiasts alike, pledging to create even more significant opportunities to accommodate all those eager to participate.
