Global Head of Narrative & Messaging at The Global Fund for a New Economy · Kenya (Remote)
The Global Fund for a New Economy seeks a Global Head of Narrative & Messaging to lead our narrative and messaging strategy and guide its effective implementation across our growing network of ten national Communications Hubs.
The Fund was established in early 2024 to catalyze a more impactful global movement for a New Economy; one that is more inclusive, more sustainable, and pro-democracy. The network of Communications Hubs will invest heavily in building the capacity of the New Economy movement to contend the “common sense” of how the public and insiders think about economic policy. Working across traditional and digital media, the network will support advocates on a wide range of topics from Just Transition through to sellers’ inflation and the corporate concentration of power in Big Tech.
This role is a unique opportunity to work with partners internationally and across ten countries to develop and help implement winning narratives on key economy topics.
Responsibilities include:
- Leading the Global Fund’s in-house narrative and framing analysis and implementation
- Delivering coaching and support for our network of national Communication Hubs to improve the quality and impact of their narrative and messaging programmes
- Coordinating the national hubs and our partners on and around key narrative moments
- Cross-organizational and team management
Person specification:
The Head of Narrative & Messaging will be a well-established leader or expert in narrative strategy – ideally with direct experience working on economic justice, environmental or another issue area with a strong economic component. They will have:
- Minimum of 5-10 years in senior communications and narrative development roles, preferably covering New Economy topics.
- A hunger for winning communications victories with a demonstrable understanding of what makes “news” or “narrative” in different contexts.
- A track record of high-level narrative interventions that change the minds of policymakers and have traction with the broader public.
- High-level public opinion skills – including commissioning polling companies and other agencies to conduct narrative research, with an ability to write and or comment on focus group scripts, polling questions, etc., and quantitative and qualitative analytical skills and an ability to quickly interpret data.
- Experience of work in more than one country is required with multiple languages spoken preferred.
Job Specifications, Compensation and Benefits:
- Location: Remote, but travel is expected to meet colleagues from GFNE, partners and allied organizations.
- Working hours: Full-time. Some flexibility will be necessary to ensure effective working with a global team.
