Communication Intern
Job Description
You will work closely with the Communications Manager in the implementation of communications activities for the department. You will support and carry out essential operational duties.
Function & Responsibilities
- Support in the drafting and organising of content for digital streams including newsletters, editorial calendars, and video reels for TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter and YouTube
- Monitor and prepare monthly analytic reports for our social media platforms
- Monitor and research on influencers, trending topics and tools
- Support in collating content from different departments for our overall communications strategy.
- Assist with scheduling and coordination of photo/video shoots
- Support editing and formatting of photos and videos as part of our documentation process
- Support in compiling and updating our media database
- Assist with scheduling and coordination of media features including interviews
- Provide general administrative and communications support as assigned.

- This is a 6 months internship position starting February 2023
- Probation is 1 month.
- Working hours are: 9:00am – 4:00 pm on Monday to Friday
- Indicative salary KES; 24,000

Data Uploader Intern
Job Description
As a data uploader intern, you will work closely with the Archive and Digital teams to upload various types of data, such as text, images, and videos, onto our website using WordPress. This will include creating and editing posts, pages, and media files, as well as optimizing content for search engines.
Function & Responsibilities
- Uploading and maintaining a wide range of data on our website using WordPress
- Creating and editing posts, pages, and media files
- Optimizing content for search engines, including meta tags and keywords
- Ensuring all data is accurate, up-to-date, and free of errors
- Collaborating with the marketing and development teams to ensure a cohesive online presence
- Staying up-to-date with new WordPress features and functionalities

- Strong experience with content management systems (wordpress)
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to spot errors quickly

Communication Manager
You will be a key player in Book Bunk’s marketing and communications efforts cross-departmentally and within a number of internal and external communities, leading the Communications Department. You will be responsible for designing and executing Book Bunk’s communications and brand strategy, creating and disseminating communication materials for audiences, such as editorial calendars, newsletters, partner and event communications, podcasts, digital installations and media relations.
You will work closely with the Fundraising and Digital Life teams to ensure that our brand communicates to our audiences effectively. The ideal candidate is comfortable working both independently and collaboratively within a small, close-knit team, and thrives in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Function & Responsibilities
General Communications
- Develop and lead communication guidelines and strategies
- Coordinate timely development of visual and other material
- Manage partner communications
- Manage departmental support teams including interns and content production partners
Social Media & Content Management
- Manage social streams including Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn, Mailchimp and Google Ads
- Create and implement editorial calendars for all platforms
- Generate, upload and track the performance of content on digital streams
- Identify current, suitable and on-brand trends, topics or platforms to expand online engagement
- Market and promote products including events, merchandise and content via social streams
- Drive engagement with digital communities
- Create and disseminate digital campaigns in appropriate formats and via relevant channels to ensure public understanding and engagement with our library restoration work
- Collate, analyse and quantify responses to direct future campaigns
- Collaborate with the fundraising team to create compelling campaigns to inform and engage the public and transform goodwill into giving.
Digital Maintenance
- Collaborate with the web & graphics design team to ensure a coherent/seamless visual and aesthetic experience on all platforms
- Update the brand narrative as needed on all digital platforms
- Monitor site analytics and apply learning to future campaigns.
Media Relations
- Generate and maintain a database of media contacts
- Manage all incoming media requests
- Generate regular press packs and overall press management
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
Essential
- 3-5 years of relevant professional experience in communications and/or marketing, with expertise in Brand strategy, Media Relations, Digital Media Management experience, including social media management and digital marketing
- Experience working in the Arts and Culture industry or related sectors
- Knowledge of Communication/Marketing models and needs for social impact organisations
- Knowledge of Web Publishing, Fundraising, Marketing & Analytics tools/platforms
- Knowledge of best practices for writing and publishing on different platform
- Excellent written, presentation, oral communication and interpersonal skills.
- Be a creative and strategic thinker with good judgement and ability to make independent decisions in a changing environment.
- Attention to detail and problem solving skills.
Professional Qualifications
- Undergraduate Degree/Diploma in Journalism, Marketing, Communication, Business Information Technology, IT, Media Studies or a related field from a recognised university
