Rafiki wa Maendeleo Trust (RWMT) is a charitable organization operating in rural Rarieda Sub-County in Siaya County. The organization began as a grass-root CBO in 2003 to assist orphaned children and youth with a focus on community empowerment and development.

We are currently seeking to recruit a talented, progressive, and team-oriented individual to fill the position of Communication and Fundraising Coordinator.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

This post will require the incumbent to promote effective internal and external communication to
enhance teamwork, public relations, and fundraising efforts. The Coordinator will participate in
resource mobilization work ranging from writing proposals, soliciting Corporate Sponsorship,
and coordinating fundraising events in order to grow the organization’s income.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

R1. Internal communications
T.1 Regularly update the organization’s various Bulletin boards to keep staff and beneficiaries
informed and inspired
T.2 Coordinate regular ongoing, short, theme appropriate team building games and activities across
the organization and various departments to enhance communication, teamwork, trust, and joy
in the workplace.
T.3 Develop creative tools and coordinate efforts to enhance the positive sharing of information and
updates between departments, teams, and team members within the organization.

R2. Coordinate Fundraising
T.1 Coordinate relevant aspects of the fundraising strategy to guide RWMT’s pursuit to increase
donor funding.
T.2 Develop and propose new ideas for fundraising activities to generate revenue for the
organization.
T.3 Research potential Kenyan-based donors and corporates with the goal of growing funding
base from within Kenya.
T.4 Full event management of fundraisers, including event budgeting, venue coordination, guest
invitation and registration processes, speaker and VIP support, on-site troubleshooting and
event follow-up.
T.5 Actively participate in RWMT’s strategic planning process to ensure the proposed development
initiatives are integrated into the fundraising and communications strategy.
T.6 Collaborate with the Management Team and Founding Trustee to identify budget gaps, and
develop new demand-driven project ideas, for which to apply for funding;
T.7 In collaboration with the local team, participate in writing concept notes, project notes, and/or
funding proposals.

R3. PR and Communications
T1. Engage with various staff and departmental teams to streamline efforts, and improve the quality of
impact stories and reporting templates to enhance the presentation, image, and content of donor
reports.
T2. Develop new and/or enhance existing PR materials for our network of local and international
volunteers.
T3. Develop value-addition reporting and other feedback mechanisms to boost existing funders’
experience and satisfaction
T4. Improve and update the organization’s PR and communication materials.
T5. Ensure road signs, gate signs and all internal signs are relevant and well maintained.
T6. Regularly update and enhance the organization’s website and other social media platforms.
T7. Coordinate content, pictures, and graphics for the organization’s Annual Impact Report.

R4. Volunteers
T.1 Coordinate review of existing volunteer program and development of an enhanced
volunteer program and alumni
T.2 Coordinate development of Volunteer Strategy: goals, objectives, design, development,
marketing
T.3 Coordinate the Volunteer experience from initial contact through to transition to volunteer
alumni

R5. Knowledge Management
T1. Coordinate efforts between departments to improve knowledge management and ease of
access to information by centralizing documents, reports, data, and project/grant related
documents onto a google drive.
T2. Develop a resource file of funding proposal templates and communication tools from major
donors.
R.6 Other Duties and Responsibilities
T.1. Perform any other duties and responsibilities which may be assigned by the Executive
Director and/or the Board of trustees from time to time and which are related to the
achievement of RWMT’s mission and vision.4

3. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
(The knowledge, skills, and abilities may be required through a combination of formal schooling, self-education and prior experience or on-the-job training).
a) Level of Education:
• At least a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Social Sciences, Development Studies or other
related fields.
• Additional training in communications, media, graphic design
b) Key Competencies:
• Excellent critical thinking skills and an ability to act in an advisory capacity
• Comfortable with public speaking and meeting/training facilitation; able to represent the
organization in a professional manner in public and in meetings.
• Ability to engage with and leverage value of multicultural teams
• Excellent English-language skills
• A flair for producing documents for donors, the media, stakeholders, and the general public,
including experience with the basics of graphic design, careful attention to detail, quality reports,
press releases.
• Requires good interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships with multi-cultural local and
International individuals and team
• Should possess strong communication, negotiation, and administration skills.
• Strong organizational skills

c) Job Experience:
• A minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible professional experience, with at least
some experience working directly with grassroots organizations operating at the community level
working with vulnerable and at-risk populations including people living with HIV,
orphans/vulnerable children, women, and the rural poor.
• Proven track record soliciting donor funds from local and international sources, including superior
skills in networking, donor relationships, and experience with the requirements of international
donor agencies.
• Experience with project management and grant management cycles.
