Kenya Industrial Property Institute (KIPI) is a State Corporation under the Ministry of Investments, Trade and Industry. The Institute’s mandate as provided for under the Industrial Property Act, No. 3 of 2001 and the Trade Marks Act, Cap 506 is to promote inventive and innovative activities, facilitate the acquisition of technology through registration and regulation of patents, utility models, technovations, industrial designs and trade marks.

In implementing the Government Bottom-Up Economic Transformational Agenda (BETA), KIPI wishes to recruit dynamic, result-oriented and self-driven person to fill the vacant position below: –

 

RECRUITMENT OF MANAGING DIRECTOR

MANAGING DIRECTOR GRADE KP ‘1’ (REF. NO. KIPI/ADM/HR/2023/1) ONE (1) POSITION
Terms of service : Contract
Basic Salary : Ksh. 260,000/= – Ksh. 460,000/= p.m
House Allowance : Ksh. 80,000/= p.m
Entertainment Allowance : Ksh. 65,000/= p.m
Medical Cover : As per KIPI’s medical policy
Leave Allowance : As per KIPI Human Resource Manual
Annual Leave : 30 working days per financial year

(a) Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Board, the Managing Director will be responsible for:
i. Providing strategic leadership and ensuring proper day to day management of the Institute;
ii. Ensuring implementation of Institute’s programmes, project and activities;
iii. Implementing Board policies and decisions;
iv. Ensuring registration of patents, industrial designs, utility models, trade and service marks are done effectively and efficiently;
v. Implementing the Performance Contract signed between the Board and the Government;
vi. Implementing the provisions of the Industrial Property Act, 2001 and the Trade Marks Act, Cap 506;
vii. Preparing and coordinating business related proposals, reports and other submissions for consideration by the Board;
viii. Implementing the relevant local, regional and international agreements to which Kenya is a Party;
ix. Ensuring proper management and control of the Institute’s financial and non- financial resources in an efficient and cost-effective manner in consultation with the Board, parent Ministry and all the relevant Government agencies and stakeholders;
x. Serving as Secretary to the Board;
xi. Carrying out other responsibilities necessary for the achievement of the Institute’s objectives;
xii. Advising the Board on matters related to the implementation of the business of the Institute; and
xiii. Carrying out any other function directed by the Board from time to time.

(b) Requirements for Appointment
i. A Master’s Degree in Intellectual Property, Law, Science, Information Technology or Business Administration from a recognised university;
ii. A Bachelor’s Degree in Law, Science, Information Technology or Business Administration from a recognised university;
iii. At least Seven (7) years working experience in matters relating to industrial property;
iv. Served at top management position for a minimum period of five (5) years;
v. Undergone senior management training for a minimum period of four (4) weeks from a recognised institution;
vi. Clear understanding of the role of industrial property rights in Kenya’s socio- economic development;
vii. Must possess strong interpersonal skills;
viii. Must demonstrate good knowledge of public finance management and public procurement and asset disposal;
ix. Must have high degree of integrity and responsibility;
x. Membership to relevant professional body;
xi. Computer competence; and
xii. Must meet the requirements of Chapter 6 of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010.
