Renal Nurse

  • Key Responsibilities
    • Covering the nurse in charge as a team leader as and when required.
    • Ensure proper inventory of the available equipment on a daily basis and ensure that they are in good working condition. Report any malfunction to Bio-Medical Technician/Nurse in charge.
    • Ensure the unit is financially viable and demonstrate growth.
    • Ensure that Avenue corporate governance policies are adhered to.
    • Read, understood and is conversant with all systems, policies and procedures as outlined in the Hospital Manual especially the Renal unit policy and policies pertaining to provision of medical services i.e. Admission & discharge procedures, nurses’ reports, ward equipment and supplies, emergency protocols etc.
    • Performance of dialysis from start to finish, monitors patient reaction to treatment and performance of the dialysis machines and demonstrates an in-depth understanding of the mechanics of dialysis and dialysis emergencies.
    • Incident reporting tool – record all sentinel incidents/events and report within 24 hours using the provided tools
    • Maintain and enforce infection control standards per the hospital manual and observe the infection control bundles (SSI,VAP,CAUTI and CLABSI) where applicable. Demonstrates an in depth understanding of infection control in the dialysis unit and prevention of transmission of pathogens.
    • Performs disinfection of dialysis equipment.
    • Supervise patient attendants as per their job description
    • Engaging the multi disciplinary team actively through an established physician contact system and during Doctors/ Nephrologist visit rounds. Refers patients to other disciplines or services as needed (Nutrition, Social work, support groups etc).
    • Reviews Nephrologist prescription for dialysis patients, collects pre-treatment dialysis data, and reviews patient records prior to dialysis.
    • Ensure recording and safe keeping of patient’s valuables
    • Document findings of patient assessment and intervention and advises providers of any significant change in the patients condition and other pertinent information as soon as they are available.
    • Performs diagnostic tests such as blood sugar testing. Collection of pre-dialysis blood samples for testing. Ensure that all diagnostic requests and reports (lab and radiology) have accurate patient’s clinical information and biodata. Demonstrates a working knowledge of dialysis laboratory tests and dialysis medications.
    • Ensure patients safety following the 6 International Patient Safety Goals (IPSGs) (patient identification, effective communication, safety of high alert medication, ensure correct site procedure and surgery, reduce the risk of healthcare associated infections, reduce the risk of patient harm resulting from falls)
    • Provides patient and family education/teaching applicable to the patients medical condition. Discusses patient concerns and answers questions relevant to care.
    • Prioritize patient needs. Conducts pre-dialysis patient assessment including obtaining patient vital signs and assessing the patient’ s vascular access, laboratory findings, and the patient’ s general health.
    • Organize emergency trolley for easy use during resuscitation, drugs and supplies are well stocked, damaged equipment is removed and reported promptly A checklist should be kept and updated on the 1st and 16th of every month, and as needed.
    • Preparation of the dialysis delivery system, dialysate bath, and dialyzer and confirms that all mandatory alarm tests on the dialysis equipment are performed.
    • Perform all invasive nursing procedures under aseptic technique. Utilizes sterile techniques to assess the dialysis catheter exit site and to apply dressing on the patient’ s vascular access (dialysis catheter, arterioveinous access) per protocols
    • Promptly assesses, prepares, and aseptically cannulates a patient’ s vascular access (including needle insertion in arterioveinous fistula or grafts for connection with dialysis equipment).
    • Ensure all the relevant consultants have explained procedures and have obtained consent
    • Conducts post dialysis assessment and patient discharge, by evaluating treatment, documenting medication administration utilizing the appropriate protocols, assessing condition of vascular access, discharging the patient when vital signs are stable, and documenting and recording patient treatment data.
    • Ensure patient privacy and confidentiality is maintained at all times, as per policy.
    • Drug administration.
    • Adhere to Government and respective professional standards of care and treatment of patients as guided by the Nursing Council of Kenya.
    • Client satisfaction (patient, consultants and others)- ensure client satisfaction through optimal quality of care, effective communication, timely feedback and escalation of unresolved issues to the in-charge and demonstrate follow-up and improvement.
    • Any other duty as assigned by your immediate supervisor in line with the job description
  • Personal Specifications
    • Diploma in nursing KRCHN
    • Higher Nursing Diploma in Nephrology Nursing
    • BLS/ACLS trained.
    • 4 years’ experience in nursing with 1 year experience being in renal

Endoscopy Nurse

  • Key Responsibilities
    • Performs endoscopy procedures with the endoscopists considering the age-specific physiological, emotional and cognitive needs of the patient
    • Perform pre-procedure assessment reviewing patient history and physical examination
    • Formulate a nursing care plan to address patient care goals and ensure an excellent outcome
    • Coordinate planned nursing care with other healthcare team members
    • Act as the nursing team leader during endoscopy procedures
    • Prepare procedure room for the patient
    • Perform a pre-procedure safety checklist to ensure patient safety.
    • Provide sedation care for endoscopy services as per protocols
    • Document patient care activities and outcomes as per policies and procedures
    • Ensure continuity of patient care during the post-procedure phase with an effective handover
    • Develop promotions and publicity for the Endoscopy service in collaboration with the marketing department
    • Uses equipment and departmental resources appropriately.
    • Ensure financial objectives of the Endoscopy Service are met
    • Patient satisfaction and confidentiality:
    • Provide Monthly reports to the line manager and senior hospital management on the performance of the Endoscopy Services
  • Personal Specifications
    • BSc. Nursing or KRN, KRCHN 
    • BLS and ACLS certification 
    • Must have a valid practicing license from the Kenya Nursing council 
    • At least two years of experience in endoscopy procedures, including Gastroscopy, Colonoscopy, ERCP and Bronchoscopy

Senior Procurement Officer

  • Key Responsibilities
    • Deliver on the Avenue Group strategic procurement initiatives and roll out the procurement plan with the support of the CFO and senior leadership team.
    • Develop key processes, procedures, and work templates to ensure continuous improvement and adhere to the best practice standards.
    • Foster savings by using the procurement levers such as standardization, optimization, consolidating and outsourcing. 
    • Develop and manage the list of approved suppliers, elaborate supplier selection, and evaluation, quality, and performance measurement mechanisms. 
    • Manage price agreements and contracts as required. Establish and implement a monitoring system that ensures that the prices paid for supplies are in line with local market prices. 
    • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual procurement plans and progress reports as required.
    • Ensure that all transactions are kept current, recorded accurately, and processed efficiently both physically and online.
    • Maintain procurement files including all relevant documentation and vendor tracking system.
    • Manage vendor contracts and maintain relationships with suppliers to ensure completeness of deliverables outlined in the contract this includes ensuring that all vendor complaints and concerns are addressed promptly to ensure that the organization continues to always receive uninterrupted services.
    • Co-ordinate the effective resolution of vendor queries and other finance related issues. Assist in the sourcing of products as required.
    • Implement the supplier performance management plan; roll out KPIs and report on performance of suppliers.
    • Work with the Evercare Regional Office and the Procurement & Supply Chain Manager-Evercare Kenya on ecosystem strategic initiatives
    • Any other duty as assigned by the supervisor
  • Personal Specifications
    • Bachelor’s Degree in procurement and supplies management 
    • Professional qualification in procurement (CIPS or its equivalent)
    • Experience working with an ERP preferably Oracle Supply Chain Module
    • 5 years’ experience 

Operating Theatres Manager

  • Key Responsibilities
    • Supervision of theatre staff and their work, including preparing duty rosters
    • Ensure adherence to policies, procedures, confidentiality, privacy and checklists in place for safe and high-quality care
    • Daily planning and efficient implementation of Theatre schedule
    • Oversee pre- to post-operative care to ensure safe surgeries and excellent outcomes
    • Participate or assist in surgical procedures – laparoscopic and complex procedures
    • Build strong relationships with theatre users, including surgeons and anesthetists
    • Oversee the day case admission desk and client experience operations, including booking, discharge, and addressing patient, families, and doctor concerns.
    • Proactively work with other departmental heads to improve services
    • Stewardship of theatre equipment, instruments, and infrastructure, maintaining an inventory, proper usage, storage and ensuring preventing maintenance 
    • Supervise sterilization services and other infection control and prevention measures
    • Stock management of theatre consumables
    • Maintain accurate records and registers, including billings, incidents, patient notes and surgical cases
    • Participate in formulating operating theatre processes and procedures, budgets, and guiding investments into theatre services.
    • Monitor fiscal budget to control operational and capital expenditures to improve unit productivity
    • Lead the implementation of all quality improvement initiatives and risk management programs 
    • Coaching and developing new and existing staff, transforming quality, and instilling good theatre practices.
    • Any other duty as assigned by the supervisor in line with the job description
  • Personal Specifications
    • BSc. Nursing or KRN, KRM, KRCHN
    • Higher diploma in perioperative training (KRPON)
    • BLS and ACLS certification
    • Endoscopy /laparoscopy training
