Main Duties

  •  1. Monitor standards of nursing care and other support services to ensure the delivery of quality patient care
  •  2. Develop and implement unit budget and ensure operations are within the budget
  •  3. Address issues and concerns within the section to ensure both internal and external customer satisfaction
  •  4. Submit monthly activity reports to the management
  •  5. Update staff on health and safety requirements to ensure a safe environment and compliance with the statutory requirements
  •  6. Liaise with various experts, consultants, and section heads to achieve departmental and institutional goals
  •  7. Ensure adequate supply and proper management of staff, consumables, and assets to maximize efficiency and cost controls
  •  8. Ensure effective infection control measures
  •  9. In liaison with the security Manager ensuring adequate security at the premises throughout and reporting any incidents
  •  10. Ensure patients’ nursing needs be they physical, psychological, mental or spiritual are attended to in a holistic manner
  •  11. To supervise nursing care and other support services to assure the delivery of quality care
  •  12. Set work schedules for all staff in the unit
  •  13. Foster teamwork and discipline among the staff
  •  14. Address issues and concerns within the section to ensure both internal and external customers satisfaction
  •  15. Ensure proper induction of new staff and nursing students for smooth adoption and correct practice of nursing care

Required Qualifications for the Position

  • 1. Diploma (KRCHN/KRN) / Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree (BScN)
  •  2. A higher National Diploma in Accident & Emergency Nursing or Critical care Nursing specialization
  •  3. BLS/ACLS certified
  •  4. ATCN certification would be an added advantage
  •  5. A&E or Critical Care Nursing experience of 5 years and above with at least 2 years managing a busy A&E or Critical care unit
  •  6. Registered with the Nursing Council of Kenya with a valid license.

ICU Coordinator

Main Responsibilities

  •  1. Co-ordinates and directs the daily patient care operations of the Critical Care Unit
  •  2. Analyses workloads and skill requirements to meet patient care needs
  •  3. Assesses staff competencies and makes patient care assignments
  •  4. Delegates appropriate tasks to appropriate personnel, consistent with legal and professional guidelines and departmental standards
  •  
  • 5. Maintains clear communications with the Clinical Nurse Manager regarding unit needs and/or incidents
  •  6. Serves as a resource person on the unit
  •  7. Assists with patient care as needed
  •  8. Identifies appropriate internal controls for the department; provides mechanisms to monitor and enforce compliance
  •  9. Providing second-on-call coverage, and running of general surgery clinics with both preoperative and post-op care plans
  •  10. Co-ordination of morbidity/mortality meetings and Multi-Disciplinary Meetings
  •  11. Ensures the unit is well equipped with well-functioning equipment
  •  12. Prepares the budget and ensures procurement of capital items to specifications and adequate supplies for the unit at all times
  •  13. Carries out performance appraisals for department staff
  •  14. Ensures the competence and efficiency of staff in terms of knowledge, skills, and attitude
  •  15. In liaison with the HR department, manage staff welfare, training, and development
  •  16. Creates a work environment that fosters a high degree of personal integrity, team spirit, and outstanding performance standards
  •  17. Reports on clinical issues to the Director of Medical Services as required
  •  18. Participate in quality improvement initiatives within the department and provide reports as required

Required Qualifications for the Position

  • 1. Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MB ChB)
  • 2. Minimum 5 years as a Senior Medical Officer
  • 3. Post-graduate training in Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine
  • 4. Minimum two years of ICU /Critical Care Experience
  • 5. Ability to train & develop staff
  • 6. Supervisory experience
  • 7. Health Management Systems training is desirable
  • 8. Registered with KMPDC with a valid practicing license.

Accident And Emergency Coordinator

Position Summary

Reporting to the Director of Medical Services. The job holder will attend to patients who are presented to the A & E Department, make important decisions regarding their immediate management, and take general responsibility for the day-to-day running of the A & E Department

Main Duties

  •  1. Supervision of all Medical Officers and Senior Medical Officers in the management, stabilization, and treatment of all patients at the Accident and Emergency department
  •  2. Overall management of Medical Officers Rota
  •  3. Coordinating medical training including Continuous Medical Education programs for A&E Clinical Staff
  •  4. Draws up and reviews policies and procedures to govern the Accident and Emergency department and circulates them for approval
  •  5. Attends management meetings and makes reports on issues needing input from other departmental heads
  •  6. Ensuring that Hospital policies and administrative regulations are known and understood by Accident and Emergency staff
  •  7. Carries out performance appraisals for department staff twice a year
  •  8. Ensures the competence and efficiency of staff in the department in terms of knowledge, skills, and attitude
  •  9. In liaison with Human Resources Department, ensures that staffing requirements are fully met and staff welfare, training, and development is well managed
  •  10. Creates a work environment that fosters a high degree of personal integrity, team spirit, and outstanding work standards
  •  11. Makes follow-up on complaints received from patients in the department
  •  12. Providing clinical support during emergencies including resuscitation, admission, discharge, or referral to the appropriate consultants and units.
  •  13. Managing and maintaining the major disaster plan at the Accident and Emergency Department.
  •  14. Participating in developing various clinical protocols.
  •  15. Any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.

Required Qualifications for the Position

  • 1.MBChB
  •  
  • 2. Registered with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Board
  • 3. Post-graduate training in Surgery, Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, or Family Medicine
  • 4. 8 years of work experience, 3 of which should have been in a busy emergency setting
  • 5. A proven record of leading multi-disciplinary teams
  • 6. ACLS, ATLS, or EPLS training
  • 7. Strong leadership and administrative skills
  • 8. Good interpersonal skills
  • 9.  Ability to make quick and solid decisions
  • 10. Strong mentoring and teaching skills
