Job Description & Summary

  • In Consulting, Our Portfolio and Programme Management practice works with Governments, Development Partners, Non-Governmental Organisations and Foundations to address international development challenges and attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Our clients come to PwC for innovative and imaginative solutions to help them meet the challenges they face and capitalise on the opportunities they have to build trust with – and deliver sustained outcomes for – their stakeholders.
  • We are seeking to strengthen our International development team by recruiting highly motivated individuals for the following role;
  • Manager, Portfolio and Programme Management (International Development)
  • The job holder will play a role in the delivery of international development solutions including Fund management, Programme and Project management, Monitoring and Evaluation and Technical Assistance for clients within the public sector in East Africa.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the implementation of the department’s strategy.
  • Undertake business development activities and growth of the department including leading the development of proposals to implement client solutions.
  • Take the lead in managing the quality delivery of assignments to our clients, as well as managing staff and project teams in the delivery of the assignment.
  • Lead in thought leadership and innovation initiatives.
  • Lead in practice management activities of managing the practice e.g. Risk management, staff training, staff management, managing project budgets etc.

Preferred skills

Required Knowledge and Experience: 

  • First Degree in a relevant field of International development. Masters degree will be an added advantage.
  • Professional Certification in any of the following specialties; Accounting, Project management, M&E, Data Analytics etc.
  • Experience in International development e.g. Private sector development, Public sector financial management and Governance, Sustainability and Climate Change, Social sectors such as education, health, agriculture etc.
  • Ability to work in diverse multi-cultural environments and must be a team player
  • Demonstrable leadership skills and experience in leading projects and diverse teams
  • Strong analytical and problem solving capabilities
  • Strong academic background backed by relevant full professional qualifications
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Innovative and solution oriented
  • Interested in making a difference and solving societal problems
  • Highly self motivated and purpose driven

​Minimum years experience required

Atleast 8 years’ previous experience and exposure in the public sector either in Government, Development partners, Projects, Foundations, NGOs or in a professional services firm in;

  • Financial Management
  • Programme and Project Management
  • Monitoring and Evaluation
  • Technical Assistance
