Deputy Chief Executive Officer

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise all internal functions, including finance, programs, operations, people, science, and conservation.
  • Support the CEO as and when required.
  • Provide oversight and coordination to the diverse technical teams and matrix (regions, conservancies, programs) to ensure seamless execution.
  • Lead annual planning, budgeting, execution, process streamlining, and resource management to ensure efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Oversee organizational change management and transformation, developing strategies to enhance the professionalization of the organization.
  • Oversee NRT’s support to improving conservancy field operations, staff and conservancy board capacity, governance, and technical programmes.
  • Create and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all departments to streamline processes and ensure compliance with organizational standards.
  • Ensure organisational systems enable efficient and effective execution of the strategic plan; evaluate options for digitization of organisation, need for an organisation wide ERP system.
  • Provide daily management, coaching and mentorship, and career development and training opportunities to all direct reporting staff.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Master’s in business administration, Project Management and any other related field.
  • Proven experience of 10+ years in operations and 7+ years in leadership roles.
  • Excellent decision-making, strategic thinking, and interpersonal capabilities.
  • Strong understanding of finance, program management, human resources, and operationalprocesses.
  • Experience with multinational conservation-focused NGOs .
  • Experience with complex organization that required matrix management of technical teams across a vast landscape.
  • Passion for community development and wildlife conservation.
  • Willingness to work in hardship areas.

People (HR) Director

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute a talent acquisition, management, development, retention, and exit strategy.
  • Develop onboarding materials for NRT and CCY employees and develop a SOP handbook for all HR-related policies, procedures, and administrative processes.
  • Design and implement a comprehensive training curriculum to enhance the skills of employees and HR personnel at CCYs.
  • Oversee the implementation of performance management processes to drive organizational growth and individual employee development.
  • Develop succession planning initiatives to identify and groom high-potential employees for future leadership roles within the organization.
  • Assess and manage development of digitized HR Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system to streamline HR processes and enhance efficiency.
  • Promote and lead employee engagement initiatives to create a positive and motivated work environment.
  • Promote an inclusive and positive work environment, focusing on diversity across all levels.
  • Address employee concerns, conflicts and grievances and develop HR policies that comply with labour laws.
  • Develop annual budgets for the department and provide any support required in the development of fundraising proposals and grant reports.
  • Align closely with the Chief Operating Officer for institutional memory and continuity.
  • Provide daily management, coaching and mentorship, and career development and training opportunities to all direct reporting staff.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Master of Business Administration (HR), Strategic Management.
  • Certified Human Resource Practitioner (CHRP), Member of IHRM with annual practicing license.
  • Proven experience of 10+ years in HR roles with at least 5 years in a leadership position.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of HR functions, talent management, and Kenyan employment laws.
  • Demonstrated expertise in talent acquisition, management, and development.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to build strong relationships across all levels of the organisation.

Science & Conservation Director

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop an overarching monitoring, evaluation, adaptation and learning strategy to provide robust business intelligence to inform and guide NRT operations. This includes:
  • Rationalization of all datasets and flows across the NRT network to establish annual impact reports and analysis.
  • Provide oversight for GIS, MEAL, data management, and wildlife, governance and social monitoring functions to ensure accurate and effective data collection and analysis.
  • Oversee implementation of EarthRanger software and roll out of the digital data collection for
  • Wildlife Comms, Veg Comms, Governance Comms, Social Comms and Marine Comms across all regions
  • Develop an overarching applied research strategy for the organization, identifying key research areas and partners aligned with our mission and goals. This includes overseeing the schedule and quality assuring all baseline midline and final evaluations.
  • Support efforts to publish research outcomes and findings in reputable scientific journals and present at conferences to contribute to the broader scientific community and drive evidencebased community led conservation efforts.
  • Establish and nurture strategic partnerships and consortiums with research institutes, governmental agencies, NGOs, and other stakeholders to collaborate with and share data in the landscape. This includes maintaining a strong relationship with Lewa Wildlife Conservancy and strengthen joint research, monitoring and other scientific efforts.
  • Mentor and guide junior scientists and MEAL officers within the organization, and design training programs for staff and community conservancies to enhance their MEAL and scientific skills and knowledge.
  • Oversee implementation and execution of species management plans, the endangered species programme, and robust monitoring and evaluation protocols.
  • Develop annual budgets for the department and provide any support required in the development of fundraising proposals and grant reports.
  • Provide daily management, coaching and mentorship, and career development and training opportunities to all direct reporting staff.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Ph.D. in a relevant field such as Environmental Science, Ecology, Biology, Conservation and/or relevant social science.
  • Demonstrated 10 years’ experience in managing research initiatives with strong analytical skills and proficiency in data analysis/statistical tools.
  • Experience working in multicultural and interdisciplinary teams to address complex conservation and development challenges
