Job Description

Uasin Gishu County is situated in the mid-west of the Rift Valley covering an area of 3,345.2 square kilometers and lies between longitude 34 degrees 50’ east and 35 degrees 37’ west and latitude 0 degrees 03’ south and 0 degrees 55’ north . The county is further sub-divided into six sub-counties namely; Soy, Turbo, Moiben, Ainabkoi, Kapseret and Kesses.It borders six counties namely Elgeyo Marakwet County to the East, Trans Nzoia to the North, Kericho to the South, Baringo to the South East, Nandi to the South West and Bungoma to the West. The county has an estimated population of 894,179 with urban population contributing about 31% of the entire population. The population density is 267 persons per .The County has potential labor force of 550,000 (56%) of the entire population. Hence 44% of the population is dependent. Uasin Gishu County is a highland plateau with altitudes falling gently from 2,700 metres above sea level to about 1,500 metres above sea level. The County lies within the Lake Victoria catchment zone and all its rivers drain into the lake. The main rivers include; Sosiani, Kipkaren, Kerita, Nderugut, Daragwa and Sambu .

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Monitor effective storage of specialized medical supplies requiring cold storage;
  • Supervise pharmaceutical services in health facilities;
  • Disseminate and provide new drug information to health workers;
  • Coordinate Medical and Therapeutic committee activities in a health facility;
  • Develop and review pharmaceutical standards operating procedures for health facilities;
  • Conduct research on the trend of medicine utilization and make appropriate advise;
  • Provide continuous professional development education to pharmacists;
  • Evaluate appropriateness of donated medical supplies and drugs;
  • Oversee maintenance of pharmaceutical inventories;
  • Participate in facility management committees;
  • Coordinate preparation of annual work plans and ensuring they are adhered to;
  • Monitor and evaluate staff performance against set targets;
  • Perform other duties that may be assigned from time to time.

Requirement for Appointment

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy (B Pharm) from an institution recognized by Pharmacy and Poisons Board;
  • Master’s Degree in Clinical Pharmacy from an institution recognized by Pharmacy and Poisons Board will be an added advantage;
  • Relevant work experience of not less than four (4) years;
  • Certificate of Registration as a Pharmacist by the Pharmacy and Poisons Board;
  • Valid practicing license from Pharmacy and Poisons Board;
  • Having undergone supervisory course of not less than four weeks from a recognized institution will be an added advantage;
  • Demonstrated professional competence and managerial capability as reflected in work performance and results;
  • Successful applicant to meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution on Leadership and Integrity.
