TSC Sets New Dates For Newly Employed Teachers to Report to Their Work Stations
The Teacher Service Commission has announced the day on which newly hired teachers are expected to report to their stations.
TSC recently carried out a recruitment drive that hired 14,000 teachers in order to ease the teacher shortage in Kenyan schools. The exercise began on July 11 and was completed on July 13, 2022.
TSC CEO Dr. Nancy Macharia has officially publicly confirmed that the new teacher recruits will be posted to their new working stations commencing in September 2022.
TSC stated that before reporting to their new stations on a permanent and pensionable basis, teachers will receive letters from the sub county directors.
A freshly hired teacher receives a letter of employment from the TSC once the teacher’s paperwork has passed scrutiny. The letter is delivered to the teacher via the station to which they have been assigned in order to fulfill their TSC obligations.
The TSC Secretary specifies the teacher’s entry-level in the letter, such as Secondary School Teacher II for those beginning their careers as degree holders. The employment letter also lists the station where the instructor has been posted and the courses they will be teaching.
A newly recruited teacher works on probation for a period of not less than six (6) months. In some cases the probation period may be extended if the teacher’s performance is unsatisfactory; at worst, the teacher’s employment may be terminated before the completion of the probation period.
To be confirmed on permanent terms, the head of an institution fills a recommendation form for the teacher that is sent to TSC for approval. The teacher is expected to proceed to the posted institution as indicated on the employment letter and has a grace period of 30 days from the effective date; as stated in the letter.
