Plan International Kenya’s (PIK) strategic goal in the next five years is to end teenage pregnancies and end all forms of sexual and gender-based violence against adolescent girls and young women. We aim to help create an enabling environment where girls and young women are safe, valued, equally cared for, and have equal opportunities. PIK will contribute to the global strategy by aiming to reach directly approximately 2.75 million (children, including girls and young women over the period of the strategy running between 2022-2026 and to reach additional beneficiaries through its interventions.Â

The Sponsorship Manager will provide technical leadership in the implementation and delivery of the child sponsorship program in the Country. The incumbent will provide oversight management of the country sponsorship while ensuring that child sponsorship business rules are met towards achievement of Plan International commitments. They will directly work with Program Unit Managers and Satellite Lead Offices to ensure effective integration of sponsorship program and sponsorship communication processes as implemented by Implementing partners. They will work with the field office teams and partners to build the capacity of Program Unit staff & sponsorship partners on sponsorship guidelines/policies & systems. Â
The Sponsorship Manager will maintain linkages between the Kenya Country Office, Regional Hub, Global Hub and National Offices on matters related to Child Sponsorship to ensure efficient business processes.Â
This position will also contribute to collective Extended Country Leadership Team responsibility of driving Kenya country programme.Â

ACCOUNTABILITIES AND MAIN WORK ACTIVITIESÂ

Planning, Strategy and Policy (20%) Â
- Contribute to the design of the country strategy ensuring sponsorship priorities are incorporated (including phase in/out processes).Â
- Management of the implementation of the Sponsorship Participant Policy and its implications for the Country Office.Â
- Provides strategic advice and direction on sponsorship programming matters especially on meeting Plan commitments.Â
- Provide strategic leadership and close monitoring of the achievement of Plan Commitment #2 – Reaching sponsorship communities in PMERL system (YODA program) and ensure the system is always up to date on number and names of Sponsorship communities for the Country Office.Â
- Dissemination of child sponsorship policies, guidelines and business rules/tracking complianceÂ
- Design and develop country sponsorship communication model to ensure participation of children, families and communities in line with the country strategic plan and provision of technical guidance and effective use of Child Data system.Â
- Promote innovative use of modern technologies in sponsorship to unlock efficiencies and improve quality and timeliness.Â
- Implementation of the Sponsorship Alumni frameworkÂ
Sponsorship Program Implementation, Documentation and Reporting (15%) Â
- Continuous analysis of trends in sponsorship compliance including monthly production, Nation office inquiries adherence, cancellation categories and trends, enrolment and gender equity compliance.Â
- Continuously monitor and analyse sponsorship caseloads/reports and advocate for strategic transitioning Â
- Coordinate development of quality Sponsorship Program Area Reports (SPAR), country updates among others to strengthen accountability and enhance National Offices marketing strategies in sponsorship.Â
- Working together with M&E team to utilize sponsorship data to inform program interventions.Â
- Provide regular reports and advice to the E/CMT on child sponsorship to inform decision making.Â
- In collaboration with field offices and Plan International partners implement a case management plan that ensures 100% reach of all sponsored communities with a plan intervention every year.    Â
- Implement a well-structured sponsorship monitoring plan that enables the CO to collect, learn and share evidence of successful practices in sponsorshipÂ
Working in Partnership and resource mobilisation (15%) Â
- Build good working relationships with Program Units, National Offices, Global Hub and other MEESA COs to enable smooth operations of sponsorship program.Â
- Actively participate in regional sponsorship meetings as per quarterly & annual priorities.Â
- Provide support in identification, engagement and performance management of child sponsorship partners.Â
- Support in capacity assessment/building of Plan International partners aligned to their contract arrangements.Â
- Provide support to PUs in dissemination of sponsorship guidelines and policies to sponsorship partners.Â
- Provide oversight sponsorship partnership management for delivery of sponsorship KPIs.Â
Â
Quality improvement and standards (15%) Â
- Ensure effective management and utilization of sponsorship online systems by training system users on Child Data & Query tool.Â
- Support innovations towards continuous improvement and sustainability of sponsorship processes in Kenya.Â
- Work with program teams to ensure program implementation covers sponsorship geographical areas. Â
- Lead and support documentation processes in sponsorship for learning and scaling up.Â
- Provide oversight to PUs to ensure effective case management, reporting and alignment of sponsored family’s needs to programming interventions.Â
- Prepare monthly and quarterly sponsorship reports and shares with relevant stakeholders within the organization to enhance performance. Â
Â
Financial Responsibility (10%)Â
- Effective management of sponsorship caseload to ensure 90% assignment across all PUs/CO level.Â
- Child sponsorship caseload planning and management to ensure CO annual budget allocation plans are met.Â
- Coordinate development of annual budgets to support delivery of sponsorship communications within the provided KPI of 15%.Â
- Review and provide inputs to the CO quarterly sponsorship communication budget for PUs & satellite offices to ensure 90% performance is achieved.Â
Â
Risk Management (5%)Â Â
- Identify, mitigate and respond to sponsorship related risks.Â
- Take lead in sponsorship management standards review and put in place actions to address identified gaps.Â
- Regular analysis of sponsorship data and information to highlight risks and put in place mitigation measures.Â
- Support PUs to carry out risk assessments for all sponsor visitsÂ
Capability building and People Management (10%) Â
- In collaboration with MERL, ensure all partners have the right capacity to deliver timely, complete and accurate data each month and are able to recognize and report any safeguarding concerns in their monthly reportingÂ
- Periodically assess capacity gaps amongst staff and partners and advise/organize for capacity building.Â
- Capacity development of staff and sponsorship partners towards realization of Plan International commitments. Â
- Organize for regular reflections with Field Office teams to ensure sponsorship deliverables are achieved and maintained.Â
Â
Safeguarding Children and Young People (Safeguarding) and Gender Equality and Inclusion (GEI) (5%)Â
- Understands and puts into practice the responsibilities under Safeguarding and GEI policies and Plan International’s Code of Conduct (CoC), ensuring that concerns are reported and managed in accordance with the appropriate procedures.Â
- Leads the orientation of programme staff to ensure that they are properly inducted on and understands their role in upholding Plan International’s safeguarding and GEI policies;Â
- Ensures that Plan International’s global policies for Safeguarding Children and Young People and Gender Equality and Inclusion are fully embedded in project design, during implementation and as principles applied in day-to-day work of Programme team; Â
- Ensures that Plan Kenya contributes to Plan International’s global efforts to ensure safeguarding and GEI, including making sure that relevant reporting and data are submitted.  Â

Qualifications/ experience essential: Â
- A degree in Social studies, International Development, Anthropology or Community Development. Â
- At least 7 years of demonstrable experience in programming, 3 of which must be in child sponsorship programming.Â
- 3 Years in a leadership/managerial roleÂ
- Good understanding of the child-rights framework and standards for child protectionÂ
- A good understanding of sponsorship programming in the NGO context.Â
- Project management skills, particularly including planning and integration of programs.Â
- Experience working in across departments and in business process.Â
- Demonstrated experience of working and management of partnershipsÂ

Qualifications/ experience desirable: Â
- Master’s DegreeÂ
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely. Â
